All the trompe l’oeil you can handle

Stick your nose in places

it doesn’t belong.

But until now Ms. May, 62, has never

organized an art exhibition.

And she probably never will.

She was absorbed in lofty fantasies

and private missions,

aware of the basest necessities

and the most transcendent abstractions,

and almost nothing in between.
