Poem for Art Basel

Against a backdrop of repeated references

Checked by neither morality nor policy!

The idea of a single day

devoted to the arts is absurd.

About lucid dreams that jolt awake

at the most unexpected moments.

A literal existential necessity

A bulwark against extinction

A ruse to survive and preserve

in the face of the void

The things that we consider as normal

Propelled by desire and desperation

On the verge of laughter

From the mundane to the sublime

In the absence of faith

It’s inventing doors along the way!

Rising to its own invocation.
